The way I remember the difference between polymer and a monomer is that a monomer are the small building blocks that make up these molecules. Polymers on the other hand are a large number of similar units bonded together. A lipid is important because it is no actually made up of monomers but rather one monomer. They also make up all the cell membranes but they’re also a great source of energy. They also have polarity and are generally non-polar. Nucleic acids are important because they carry genetic information and they pass it from one generation to another. Proteins are the most since they make up everything, building blocks are the amino acids; the R group differentiates them from others. Dehydration synthesis is the process in which they form a bond. Dehydration synthesis looses water but gains a bond. In order to break the polymers apart you add water.
